Cascade Junior High School

Cascade Jr. High school consists of grades 6 through 8th grade with the average class size being 16 students.  Cascade Jr. High School has a strong focus on the core curriculum for Reading, Writing, and Math while providing exposure to the arts, physical education, computer applications, and discovering agriculture.

Our Curriculum

In the area of Reading and Writing, Cascade School District utilizes The Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) English and Language Arts curriculum is designed to support students' reading, writing, and communication skills from elementary through high school. This program offers engaging materials and activities that build critical thinking, comprehension, and a love of reading. Each lesson is based on current research, aligning with proven methods to improve literacy skills.

HMH’s curriculum is backed by studies showing that structured, consistent practice in reading and writing leads to better language skills and higher academic achievement. Students explore a wide range of texts, including literature, non-fiction, and diverse cultural perspectives, which help them connect with the material and develop their own ideas. With resources for teachers, students, and families, HMH aims to create a supportive environment for every learner’s success in English and Language Arts.

In the area of Math, Cascade Schools utilizes a rigorous curriculum called Eureka Math.  Eureka math curriculum was developed by a consortium of educators and is updated regularly to ensure that that content is current.  Eureka Math curriculum has earned some of the highest rankings for rigor and alignment to standards for all math curriculum available to schools.  Within our Eureka Math curriculum, we utilize Kahn Academy to support the understanding of math.  

Cascade Jr. High School offers opportunities for reteaching core content during the school day in a variety of ways.  In the area of math, some students are given a Math Lab in which they will experience a reteach of the days lesson, a time period to review important concepts that they need to master, and a chance to preview the content for the next day’s lesson.  The Math Lab is a course that has prerequisite entry requirements, please talk to the School Principal for more information on the prerequisites.  In the area of Reading and Writing, all Jr. High Students are given an extended class period to master the Reading/Writing standards.  During the extended time period, it is common to see students reading grade level text, writing independently to standards based topics, or power-conferencing with a teacher either one on one or in a small group.
