Silzly's SectionOur Veterans Day Assembly was amazing! I would like to Thank Josh Hurley, Cascade Community School's Director, and Katherine Atwood, Cascade Schools K-12 Music, Choir, and Band Teacher for their efforts to put together such a wonderful event. I would also like to Thank all of our wonderful students and staff members of the Cascade School District for their participation and involvement in the assembly. Our ASB President and the Band Students were a big part of the assembly and its success! But most importantly, I am so thankful for our Veterans and their willingness to attend the program and allow us to show our gratitude and appreciation for their service to our country. It was a great day to be a Rambler!

New Youth Substance-Use Prevention Campaign: "Welcome to the Unaltered State"With funding from Idaho’s Millennium Fund and in collaboration with Idaho’s public health districts, the Department of Education, the Department of Juvenile Corrections, law enforcement agencies, nonprofits, drug prevention experts and others, Idaho Public Television has launched a statewide youth substance-use prevention and awareness campaign, "Welcome to the Unaltered State." The new campaign is focused on upstream prevention by building better connections for kids and changing Idaho’s attitudes and beliefs about youth substance use. The campaign includes a documentary, video and radio commercials and billboards, as well as a resource-rich website that connects kids, parents and community members with organizations that provide prevention materials and expertise.

Supporting Working Memory in ChildrenWorking memory is the ability to hold and use information in the mind for short periods. Some children may find it difficult to remember instructions, keep track of tasks, or recall important details from lessons. Parents can support their child's working memory by using tools like visual aids, repeating instructions, and creating step-by-step routines for tasks. Encouraging your child to take breaks and practice self-check-ins can also strengthen this important skill.

OTHER DECEMBER BOARD MEETING TOPICS:1500P - Board Meeting Procedures 1500B - Board Meeting Operating Protocol SB 1361a requires school boards to adopt rules of order that govern their meetings, including offering in person public comment during regular meetings. ISBA School Board Standards recommend that boards develop a Board Operating Protocol from the concepts below with adaptation to their local context - this should be unique to our board however the first four items are strongly recommended by ISBA for inclusion. Once developed, it is suggested that boards publicly commit collectively and individually to their operating protocol to enhance teamwork among board members and between the board and the chief administrator. A Board Operating Protocol is a required document, but not a required policy. Once the protocol is finalized, it is recommended that a copy is displayed publicly in the board room, along with relevant policies on public comment. Sample ISBA Board Operating Protocol
Policy 4105 Public Participation in Board Meetings This update was prompted by SB 1361a, which requires school districts to allow in person public comment on agenda items prior to taking final action. Most of the update cleans up and clarifies public comment items and expectations. ISBA has removed the bolded “notice” near the otp of the policy, but encourages boards to maintain a revised version of it on their own. This pairs with the Board Operating Protocol and procedure on board meetings. ISBA recommends having this policy and form readily available at board meetings, along with the established board operating protocol. This is a required update to a required policy ISBA 4105 policy ISBA 4105 Form
